Jerry's Baddle is a dual sport race that began in 2006 to honor a good friend and local legend Jerry Beckwith, who had been diagnosed with ALS. The race was born out of a desire to keep his spirit and passion alive by raising money to help fight the disease that took his life and to foster the community he loved. In the past two years, the event has raised over $20,000 for ALS research and $12,000 for Green River Access Fund. The race and festival have been enjoyed by all
We are excited to announce that the 2008 Jerry’s Baddle will be held at Wilderness Cove Campground. This will greatly simplify the people and gear shuttles. Campers can make reservations for primitive and cabin arrangements on Friday and Saturday nights through Wildnerness Cove, and a portion of the camping funds will be donated towards our fund raising efforts.
All 2008 donations and services will be tax deductible. This year’s donation will benefit the NC ALS Catfish Hunter Chapter which can provide non-profit receipts. The Jerry’s Baddle planning committee is working with the Green River Access Fund to develop a long term partnership to protect whitewater access and flows. In the meantime, access keys for the Gallimore Road parking lot are the best solution; and Jerry’s Baddle will continue to support the key sales at the festival.

White Water Kayak & Road Bike Race
The 2008 racers can compete in a GreenMan, Team Kayaker, Team Biker, and Bike-only categories.
The kayaking leg will consist of 4 miles of Green River whitewater starting at Big Hungry Creek, including the Class V “Narrows Section,” and ending at the Wildness Cove bridge. The kayakers will start in one minute increments beginning at 10:30:00. There will only be 120 kayak start times, and the race will be closed as soon as this cap is reached.
The bike leg will be a 26-mile loop up the Green River Cove climb, around downtown Saluda, down Holbert Cove, and back to the Wildeness Cove bridge. The primary Bike-only race will consist of 3 laps totaling 78 miles, but cyclists are welcome to stop at 26 or 52 miles.
Fees are $35/person for GreenMan and Green Team. These categories must register before midnight Thursday 4/17. There will be NO REGISTRATION ON RACE DAY for GreenMan or Green Team. The Bike-only fee is $35 per person before Thursday at midnight. Green Monster (Bike-ONLY) will be allowed to register on race day for $40. All race fees include the $15 festival fee.

GreenMan and Green Team should all plan to check in at Wilderness Cove between 8-9am. All gear and shuttle plans must be finalized before the race meeting at 9:30am.
Green Monster (Bike-only) racers should arrive at Wildeness Cove 9:30-10:30 am for check-in/registration. The Greem Monsterrace will begin at 11:00am.
